I have a habit of making, like, 97-Point Plans for the day and then managing two things and calling it good. That's fine. Though eventually I do need to get some stuff done. But also, my to-do lists end up long because I can't just, like, clean the kitchen. It needs to be doing dishes, cleaning out the fridge, taking trash, etc.

It is not quite the end of the month but I think it's close enough to report in!

Okay, I'm actually more used to either hand-carried or cross-body bags, but I can deal with a shoulder bag for this. Look at this absolute joy of a bag:

I don't think last night was the absolute worst post-Memorial Day startup in the history of post-Memorial Day startups, but it was definitely in the top five. IIRC I took last year off and it was pretty quiet, so maybe I'll take next year's off so everyone else has a better night?

For reasons unknown ~~they're sexy~~, I've ended up kinda obsessed with Orange Cat Industry's Super Robot Heroes model kits, the the Estailevs in particular. (Estailev Neamhain Warcrow for reference) There are four kits so far in the line: the Warcrow, Cassowary, and two versions of the first unit in both blue and a "Roll Out" white-n-grey option that is HHHNNGGGHH. I've managed to snag both Warcrow and Cassowary, and have hopefully managed the Roll Out, fingers-crossed on that order. Still looking for the blue, but it's early-days. There are also a bunch of kinda SD kits that I haven't looked at too closely but there's a black and purple one I may track down at some point. (But seriously, I think half my phone searches are variations on 'Estailev'...)

Not dead; more like somewhere in the weirdarse middle ground between "no energy to post", "I'm not doing anything to post about", and off picking and poking at other things and not getting around to the posting possibility to start with.

I keep failing to actually put any kind of zine together -- who knows, maybe this will be the week I stop being a weird coward or whatever this is and format up some microfiction -- but I do have some bits and bobs towards a FF zine and another Lindwyrm minizine. Just in no kind of state of finished/enough/whatever ...

Mostly I've been pecking at books and starting to fill time with just other Stuff: doodling, doodling with watercolours (much rarer but still), hunted up a wodge of DAS clay and messing around with that. Trying yet again to play some of the game/hack backlog. Etc etc ... just kind of generally Stuff.

In this sea of genocidal apologists and totalitarian fuckholery, I've basically decided that as long as I'm doing things it's fine if I'm not doing specific Things. I am still doing and making things, which itself feels better and is better than the sucking soul void that was most of 2021-2024.

Because otherwise I'm not making it through 2025, to be honest.

Ah, the weekend is over. It was mostly quiet and very nice, overall.

Saturday, we did the multi-cemetery run/ancestor worship. I only took a couple of photos and of those, the best one is unfortunately a little too distinctive to post publicly online. My one Suruga-ya package (not model kits or Lucifers) basically teleported but still arrived after we got back, thankfully. (I will have to share a picture later... it is a Roy Focker bag and it is amaaaaaaazing. No, it's better than that, lol. I have ended up on a weird low-grade Roy bender and this is satisfying me for now. Though I probably also need an icon, hmm...)

Sunday and Monday were much the same. Worked on Gunpla (Alto done, Flauros started, desk cleaned up a bit, SD Strike Freedom almost done), worked on archiving, did more house-cleaning than anticipated, watched a chunk of SEED Destiny and just... discovered things I'd memory-holed or something. I do need to get back to Battle Destiny, too. It feels like Neverending Tomorrow, control-wise, so it'll take some time to learn combat. I also really want to replay Gundam Musou 3 and maybe 2 (but definitely 3)...

Back to the grind! (At least it's a short week?)

and ended up spilling eye juice all over the place when my relief came in. It was definitely a feeling of helplessness at being poorly positioned to support my shift, pre-anxiety for a meeting on Thursday where I need to bring up issues and try to resolve them on behalf of my department with the big boss, an overreaction to a new officer who is of the old school gentleman class of casual touch, and then an embarrassment loop because I freaked out when he touched my back as we passed through a narrow spot in the stations and somehow it is now documented in his training file that he was reprimanded for not keeping his hands to himself. And like . . . you shouldn't touch people you don't know very well, but now it feels like my freakiness is on display for everyone to see. And if the LT comes down and tries to peer support me tomorrow, I'm gonna lose my shit.

I am a person, who in the past and apropos of nothing, started to daydream about how to get out of theralpy if an alien civilization showed up and I could save the world if I finished a session so they could know me completely. The world is doomed.

The Big Bad Wolf series by Charlie Adhara is available on Kindle Unlimited. And yeah, Amazon is bad, my public library system/Libby doesn't have the widest selection of m/m, and I love these books. The main character is an emotionally constipated porcupine who is trying to be better for the love of his life. The mysteries are so good, the clues are all there for you to figure out if it's your jam, and otherwise there's always a satisfying reveal. Anyway I think I've pushed these on y'all before, but I love them, I bought the ebooks, and if they were available in print, I'd buy those too.

I've also been drowning in nostalgia and reading all the old Valdemar books I loved in my childhood, but that's another post once I've finished the Storm books.

Last night, Z and I watched The Adventures of Robin Hood, a 1938 film. We got a little curious about the Robin Hood mythos after watching an in-depth video about a Sierra Robin Hood adventure game:

and the 1938 film seemed to be one of the most well-regarded. And we could see why! It was definitely different in style than a modern film, not in a bad way - there still seemed to be a lot of stage theater influence in the acting style, and the fight choreography definitely seemed more like stage fighting than something like chambara choreo, let alone those modern shakycam fight scenes where you can't see what's happening.

While there were a few odd notes (hi Marian, have you met the poor and dispossessed we are helping? We put them behind some trees so they wouldn't spoil the banquet), but overall we really enjoyed it. There's a lot of genuinely good quippy dialogue, and the chemistry between Marian (who does get to be somewhat active in the plot) and Robin was great. I also got a kick out of the costumes, which were pretty and also not trying too hard to be very period. Robin's initial outfit has crystals on it. Marian's dresses are made of the shiniest modern fabrics they could find. The band of Merry Men are indeed very merry, often laughing and smiling, especially when they've pulled one over the Normans.

My favorite scene was the one early on where Robin bursts in on Prince John's banquet, slings down a poached deer on the table, and tells him he's a traitor. It felt exactly like watching a D&D scene with a high-charisma character, so it was a lot of fun. There's also a very neat bit in the final fighting scene where we see the characters go off screen, but the fight is still visible in their enlarged shadows on a pillar until they return to the frame.

In other news, I have added a new library card to my library app, as I found out I was eligible to get one from a much larger system than our local one. Suddenly 90% of the books on my 'plz add this' list are available, and my phone keeps sending me individual notifications for various titles. Just have to choose where to start!
